Welcome : A word from Mr. Mainiero
Welcome to Spartan Territory to all our new students and parents! I am so honored to be the Principal at Youree Drive Middle AP Magnet. We have had an exciting opening of school for the 2009-10 school year with over 1,000 students. Our 6th grade Spartan Camp was held on August 12, with 240 new sixth graders attending. Led and facilitated by our Student Council and sixth grade teachers, Spartan Camp gave new students an orientation to middle school. Our four parent orientation meetings were successful in early August, and if you missed the mandatory meetings, there is a video to watch in the library (see our librarian Mrs. Scott for details).
We have new faculty members added to the Youree Drive family: Dennis Redden – added Assistant Principal of Discipline; Frank Bailey – P.E.; Nolan Budgewater – Choir; Jessica Gipson – P.E.; Stacy Hood – Music; Brittany James – English; Matthew Jester – P.E/Social Studies; Annette Lee – Gifted Math; Ray Morris – Social Studies; Wendy Robinson – Math; Ronnie Wagnon – P.E.; and Margaret Badgley - Bookkeeper.
Be sure to listen for our absentee phone calling system when it calls home. This system will be used for calling about absentees and for general announcements about the school. Parents and students can also utilize our website at www.youreedrive.com for online grading, teacher websites, school/PTSA announcements, and general school information. Our first event is Back to School Night for all grades on Monday, August 31 at 6:00 pm. You will begin in your child’s homeroom class and proceed to each class following a bell schedule. I look forward to seeing each of you as you meet the teachers and receive information for your children to succeed. Be sure to come early due to parking – both churches have given permission to park in their lots.
I would like to finish with a special thanks to PTSA for their support of YDMS. With our new PTSA President Julie Glover and many volunteers, we are heading for a new and exciting school year. I would encourage all parents, guardians, grandparents, teachers, and students to join this wonderful organization. Working together, we can give our children the best educational experiences possible!
Yours in Education,
Victor Mainiero
