Reminder: No backpacks during testing. Lunchboxes and small purses are allowed. Students should report directly to their testing location when arriving to school. Spartans will LEAP to sucess and show what they know! You've got this!

YDMS is looking forward to a successful LEAP 2025 Testing Week with our Spartans! Our students (grades 6, 7, & 8) will participate in state-mandated LEAP 2025 testing April 17th - April 23rd. Testing will begin promptly each morning. Students should plan to get a good night's sleep, eat a good breakfast in the morning, and prepare to do their best! Please make arrangements to ensure that your student attends school regularly and on time for the entire school day on these important days. Students will not be allowed to check out from school until after school-wide testing is completed each day. All electronic devices (cell phones, smart watches, earbuds, Beats etc.) will be collected before testing and will be returned after testing is completed each day. Best practices are for students to leave electronic devices at home during testing. Jackets and sweaters may be worn but cannot have pockets. No backpacks allowed during testing but lunch boxes and purses are allowed. Lunch will be delivered to classes each day (students are allowed to bring small snacks to be eaten on breaks). Students will be allowed outside time each day. We are looking forward to a successful testing experience. We appreciate your support!

8th Grade Celebration Shirts are available! 8th Grade Celebration is Monday, May 13th. This is a fun day for our students to enjoy their last day at Youree Drive. If a shirt is purchased, students will be allowed to wear non-uniform bottoms on that day. Deadline to purchase is Sunday, April 21st. Big shoutout to all the students who participated in Artbreak! We were so impressed with your creativity and talent! Here are our award winners: Josephina Cloud took home the $50.00 Best of Colored Drawing Award for her incredible piece. Rebecca Neely wowed the judges with her fiber art and snagged the $50.00 Best of Fibers Award. Makiyah Williams impressed the Visual Jurors and earned the Jurors' Choice Award! Big shoutout to Fahmieh Shalaby and Kennedy Wheatley! They teamed up for the water tower design master class and walked away with 1st place for their design. This spring our YDMS Concert Band received the “Sweepstakes” award at the Louisiana Music Educators Association District VIII Band Assessment. It is earned through receiving a rating of Superior (highest rating that can be received) in both the Stage and Sight-Reading Performance. Way to go Band!! We are Spartan Proud!!

YDMS Science Teachers attended NASA’s Mission 2 Mars workshop at SciPort Discovery Center. Teachers acquired solar eclipse glasses and learned exciting new activities (with materials) to share with students. Afterwards, some teachers enjoyed the new 2024 movie, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. #ScienceRocks
